Last November we had the honor of my friend and chiropractor Dr. Jeff Koep coming and sharing his faith with our Re:Genesis group. He had quite the testimony and spirit for encouraging holistic faith and health while we spoke for about 1 1/2 hours! Jeff offered five practices of holistic health which when applied with our faith can give a real representation of what it means to find health in the midst of the greatest challenges. Here is a letter which he offered at his practice of South Trail Chiropractic Family Wellness Center in the following weeks.
Believe it or not, my goal in last week’s newsletter was not to depress you! In fact, it was meant to a) honor an incredible woman and b) to get you thinking about who in your life might be taken from you prematurely if they keep living the way they are living. You see, that man who died in the gym could have been anyone; even someone you know right now. It could happen to someone you know tomorrow or 20 years from now if they don’t change. I also wanted you to think about what YOU need to change so that you can live life fully right now and for many years to come; so that you can fully enjoy your family, your work, your passions, and your purpose. It is our mission to help you and your families achieve that.
The “part two” of this is that there absolutely IS a better way to live that will ensure a long healthy life. But most people do not live that way. We here at South Trail Chiropractic are dedicated to teaching you this way of living, which we call Maximized Living. There are Five Essentials to Maximized Living and all are extremely important if you are planning on living a full and healthy life and raise the healthiest children on the planet! The 5 Essentials are:
1) Maximized Mind – includes time/stress management, sleep, spirituality, and positive relationships.
2) Maximized Nerve Supply – the power to heal and be healthy is in the spinal cord. When the nerves are interfered with (subluxation), the body cannot function or heal properly.
3) Maximized Quality Nutrition – food provides the fuel and building blocks that your body needs to continue to power and heal itself on a daily basis; you are what you eat!
4) Maximized Oxygen and Lean Muscle – Exercise allows your body to take in higher levels of oxygen and creates lean muscle that keeps both your body and mind healthy.
5) Minimize Toxins – toxins affect our bodies in a negative way and inhibit us from functioning at optimal levels eventually leading to illness and disease.
The 5 Essentials are the core foundation of Maximized Living. Without any of these Essentials, you are unable to live the long, healthy and fulfilled life that you are meant to live. Each of these Essentials work together to keep your cells in optimal shape and your body functioning at its highest levels. If you only focus on one of these essentials, such as exercise, you are leaving out other core elements that keep your body healthy. Of course, your adjustments and spinal correction exercises are taking care of Essential #2, which makes sure that the brain-body connection is fully functional, but what about the other four? Again, we are dedicated to teaching you about them! Starting in January, we will be holding bi-monthly advanced health workshops teaching you the Five Essentials of Maximized Living. As well, we will be holding a one day Maximized Living Makeover to teach you how to regain your health in 40 days.
The exciting part of this is that you CAN regain your health; and you CAN save a life by sharing this information with your friends and family. The North American lifestyle is literally killing people and many don’t see it happening until it’s too late. We will be asking you to bring guests to our events to make sure that we are all reaching out to those who need us. Again, I ask you, what if you gave a dying person the information they need to LIVE? You CAN save a life.
Maximized Blessings, Dr. Jeff
J.W. Fulbright once said, “In a democracy dissent is an act of faith. Like medicine, the test of its value is not in its taste, but in its effects.” Finding and defining social action in the midst of the greatest challenges can be difficult at times when you consider the needs of Canada today; particularly in political institutions. Allowing our faith to shape those actions as well as our leaders must be our central focus and priority if we are to truly Seek Expressions of Jesus as Lord in Life and Community.
Come join us for dinner on Saturday January 16th when our guest MLA Kent Hehr will come and share his story as well as vision to social action in Canadian politics. Together we can discover accountability and inspiration with one another’s roles in shaping our community as social activists and followers of Jesus Christ.

The month of December is usually a busy one. Decorations, Christmas baking, numerous shopping trips, and deciding which Christmas parties to attend seem to dominate our thinking over the Christmas season. But for the Christian Community of Expressions, there seemed to be more behind the Christmas season. It’s been said that the unique thing about Christianity is that it tells of God’s coming in human form to relate to his people and become a part of His own creation. This is what gave the Expressions Community Christmas Celebration its own distinction.
Plenty of activities filled the night including a potluck with a collection of the most flavorful dishes to pass anyone’s taste buds. The Gospel of Mark says: While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. (Mark 14:22-23). Mimicking the actions of his savior, Erik led the party goers in a spirit filled communion; giving the Expressions Community a distinct remembrance of the day God came to take part in His own creation.
From that point on fun, and hilarity continued when Erik coached those in attendance through his rendition of gift giving games. In addition to the communion, another highlight of the evening, was, what followed the Freiburger reindeer games. Over the past few months, the Lord has blessed the ministry of Expressions by bringing our good friend Mike to a variety to its ministries. During his time with expressions, Mike has expressed an interest in reading the Bible. So the Expressions Community chose to bless Mike on this day by presenting him with his own copy of Eugene Peterson’s The Message on CD. Please pray the Word of God would take root in Mike as he is exposed to the wonderments of God through scripture.
From that point on, the atmosphere took on a “come and go as you please” attitude. The food and fellowship sustained us nonchalantly as the evening came to a close. As they left, Erik and Bonnie’s guests made sure the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, as they went home to be sure their family were nestled all snug in their beds, to have visions of the next Expressions event, dance in their heads.
God’s Kingdom. The Eternal Frontier. These are the voyages of Jesus’ followers. Their mission is to seek out expressions of Jesus as Lord in all of life and community. To boldly go where no Christian has gone before!
What is the ultimate adventure look like? Where is it that Jesus calls us to go? How is it that we are supposed to get there? Who will you invite to go with you?
These are just some questions we might ask as we venture into the movie Star Trek and find a conversation afterwards exploring Jesus’ call for us to “Go into all the world…”

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matt. 28:19-20
The CFL championship was the talk of the town this past week despite the Calgary Stampeder’s losing their CFL Western conference championship to our neighbors – and friends, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Street festivals, parades, and a watermelon shortage kept the town abuzz, as Calgary played host to the 97th annual Grey Cup game this year. With almost as much hype as the NFL’s Super Bowl, Calgary was busy preparing for the weekend celebrations. Those who had tickets, flocked to the grocery store in search of their favorite watermelon helmet, while others opened their homes, and hosted their own grey cup event. Among these was the Expression Community’s “Grey Cup of Coffee” celebration.
The guests in Erik and Bonnie’s home were clearly divided as one side of the room rallied behind Saskatchewan’s Roughriders, while the other side, was in full support of their opponents, the Montréal Alouettes. During play, each side enduring some friendly razzing as we cheer on our selected teams; at the commercial breaks, time outs, and penalty calls good sportsmanship was encouraged. At half time Erik held a contest to see which side had the greatest cheer for their respected teams. The Alouette fans emerged victorious as they had burst out into their rendition of “Alouette, gentille Alouette,” and claiming the illustrious prize of After Eight Dinner Mints.
The 3rd and 4th quarters of the game kept all eyes glued on the gridiron as Montreal worked to eliminate their scoreboard deficit after the first half. It was a seesaw battle as both teams went back and forth increasing their numbers. But it all came down to the final minute of play time as Saskatchewan was leading by 2 points; and all that separated the Allouettes from the win was a field goal. Amid controversy and penalties in the closing seconds of the game, Montreal made a successful field goal clinching the Grey Cup Championship, bringing the 2009 CFL season to an end.
With the Grey Cup game under wraps, the “Grey Cup of Coffee” event came to a close as Erik finished off the night by awarding the coveted Grey Coffee Cup to the rowdiest fan. From then ON the crowds dispersed, filled with good food, good fellowship, and stronger friendships … until next season!
