The month of December is usually a busy one. Decorations, Christmas baking, numerous shopping trips, and deciding which Christmas parties to attend seem to dominate our thinking over the Christmas season. But for the Christian Community of Expressions, there seemed to be more behind the Christmas season. It’s been said that the unique thing about Christianity is that it tells of God’s coming in human form to relate to his people and become a part of His own creation. This is what gave the Expressions Community Christmas Celebration its own distinction.

Plenty of activities filled the night including a potluck with a collection of the most flavorful dishes to pass anyone’s taste buds. The Gospel of Mark says: While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. (Mark 14:22-23). Mimicking the actions of his savior, Erik led the party goers in a spirit filled communion; giving the Expressions Community a distinct remembrance of the day God came to take part in His own creation.

From that point on fun, and hilarity continued when Erik coached those in attendance through his rendition of gift giving games. In addition to the communion, another highlight of the evening, was, what followed the Freiburger reindeer games. Over the past few months, the Lord has blessed the ministry of Expressions by bringing our good friend Mike to a variety to its ministries. During his time with expressions, Mike has expressed an interest in reading the Bible. So the Expressions Community chose to bless Mike on this day by presenting him with his own copy of Eugene Peterson’s The Message on CD. Please pray the Word of God would take root in Mike as he is exposed to the wonderments of God through scripture.

From that point on, the atmosphere took on a “come and go as you please” attitude. The food and fellowship sustained us nonchalantly as the evening came to a close. As they left, Erik and Bonnie’s guests made sure the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, as they went home to be sure their family were nestled all snug in their beds, to have visions of the next Expressions event, dance in their heads.
